Nick Addison presenting our environmental policy to a very engaged audience
Bam Nuttall's Steve Hamer, who is project managing a £40 million flood defence scheme in Radcliffe and Redvales, Bury, Manchester, invited us to take part in their Stop. Make a change. close down day on 12 September.
Over the course of the day, we presented our environmental policy to seven different groups. Everyone in every group totally engaged with us, asked lots of questions and made some really interesting points. It was a pleasure to meet so many people who are passionate about the environment and to ensuring this Environment Agency site is protected from contamination during construction. A brilliant event.
The scheme in Radcliffe and Redvales is part of the Environment Agency’s programme of £2.6 billion investment into flood defences across the country. It will reduce the risk of flooding to over 800 local homes and businesses across an area that was severely affected by flooding in December 2015. Features of the scheme include 2.5 kilometres of flood defences at key locations along the edge of the River Irwell, the creation of new wildlife habitat, increased green spaces and amenity areas including improved sports facilities.
